PART 3 — The Secret of Sarah King

The drive home was silent.

Not because Elijah didn't have questions.

Because he had too many.

His father never looked shaken.

Never.

Not during market crashes.

Not during lawsuits.

Not during billion-dollar negotiations.

Yet ever since reading the folder, Marcus King had barely spoken.

And that scared Elijah.

More than Madison.

More than the humiliation.

More than anything.

The King estate sat on a hill overlooking the city.

Massive.

Private.

Impenetrable.

Or so Elijah had always believed.

The moment they arrived, however, he noticed something unusual.

Security vehicles lined the driveway.

Lawyers were entering through the front gate.

Private investigators moved through the house carrying files and boxes.

Something serious was happening.

Very serious.

Elijah followed his father into the study.

The room smelled of leather, old books, and coffee.

Marcus closed the door.

Then handed him the folder.

For several seconds Elijah simply stared at it.

Finally he opened it.

The first page contained a photograph.

A young woman.

Dark hair.

Bright smile.

Kind eyes.

She looked familiar.

Painfully familiar.

Then Elijah realized why.

She looked exactly like him.

"Who is she?"

Marcus stared at the photo.

His voice was quiet.

"Your aunt."

Elijah blinked.

"What?"

"Sarah King."

More silence.

Elijah looked back at the picture.

He had never heard the name before.

Not once.

Not ever.

And that made no sense.

Their family discussed everything.

Business.

History.

Legacy.

Everything.

So why had nobody mentioned Sarah?

Marcus slowly sat down.

Then said the words he had avoided for fifteen years.

"Because she disappeared."

The room became still.

Elijah stared.

"Disappeared?"

Marcus nodded.

"Fifteen years ago."

The photograph suddenly felt heavier.

Much heavier.

"What happened?"

The billionaire looked away.

For the first time in Elijah's life...

his father looked guilty.

Sarah had been Marcus's younger sister.

The favorite child.

The dreamer.

The artist.

The one person capable of making the entire family laugh.

She hated business meetings.

Loved old bookstores.

Volunteered at shelters.

And constantly argued with Marcus about money.

According to her, people mattered more.

According to him, success mattered more.

They fought often.

Then one day...

Sarah vanished.

No goodbye.

No note.

No explanation.

Nothing.

The police searched.

Private investigators searched.

The media searched.

Years passed.

Nothing.

Eventually everyone assumed she was dead.

Everyone except Marcus.

Because deep down...

he never stopped looking.

Then Elijah reached the final page.

And froze.

There was a recent photograph attached.

Not fifteen years old.

Recent.

Very recent.

The date was only three weeks earlier.

His eyes widened.

"What is this?"

Marcus exhaled slowly.

"The reason the case was reopened."

Elijah looked closer.

The image showed a woman standing outside a small community center.

The picture was blurry.

Taken from a distance.

But the resemblance was undeniable.

Sarah.

Older.

But unmistakably Sarah.

Alive.

The room spun.

For fifteen years everyone believed she was gone.

Now she might be alive.

Somewhere.

Walking around.

Breathing.

Living.

And nobody knew why she disappeared.

A knock interrupted them.

The head investigator entered carrying another file.

His expression was serious.

"Sir."

Marcus stood immediately.

"What did you find?"

The investigator hesitated.

Then placed several photographs onto the desk.

Elijah leaned forward.

His heart nearly stopped.

Because one of the photographs showed something impossible.

Sarah.

Holding the hand of a young child.

A little girl.

Around ten years old.

The same age Elijah had been only months earlier.

Marcus stared at the photograph.

Completely frozen.

"Who is she?"

The investigator swallowed.

"We don't know."

Silence.

Then:

"We think she's Sarah's daughter."

The words hit like an earthquake.

A daughter.

A cousin Elijah never knew existed.

A family member nobody had ever met.

Suddenly the entire mystery changed.

This wasn't just about finding Sarah anymore.

It was about finding a child.

A child who might be alone.

A child who might not even know who she really was.

Marcus slowly picked up the photograph.

His hands trembled.

Not from fear.

From hope.

The dangerous kind.

The kind that returns after you've buried it.

For fifteen years he had searched for answers.

Now he finally had a lead.

And he wasn't going to lose it.

Not again.

That night the investigation team worked until dawn.

Phone records.

Property records.

Security footage.

Witness interviews.

Every clue pointed toward a small town nearly five hundred miles away.

The same town appearing in Sarah's recent photograph.

The same town where the little girl had been seen.

The same town where the mystery might finally end.

At sunrise Marcus entered Elijah's room.

He was already dressed.

Ready to leave.

Elijah sat up immediately.

"What happened?"

Marcus looked at him.

Then smiled for the first time all day.

A small smile.

A hopeful one.

"Pack a bag."

Elijah blinked.

"Why?"

Marcus looked down at the photograph of Sarah.

Then at the picture of the little girl.

His answer changed everything.

"We're going to find your aunt."

END OF PART 3

As the King family jet prepared for takeoff, the investigators sent one final image.

The photo had been captured only hours earlier.

A little girl standing outside a school.

Wearing a faded gray hoodie.

Holding a silver keychain.

And around her neck...

May you like

was the exact same family crest worn by every member of the King family.

Including Elijah.
