Part 2

PART 2 — The Meeting Upstairs
The elevator doors closed.
For the first time since entering the showroom, Elijah was alone.
Well...
Almost alone.
The manager stood beside him respectfully.
Neither spoke.
Below them, Madison remained frozen in the middle of the showroom.
Her friends had stopped recording.
Nobody was laughing anymore.
Because everyone suddenly realized they had mocked the wrong person.
When the elevator reached the top floor, the doors opened into a private executive lounge.
Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooked the city skyline.
Luxury furniture filled the room.
But Elijah barely noticed any of it.
His eyes immediately found his father.
Marcus King.
Founder of the King Empire.
One of the most successful businessmen in America.
The man stood from a conference table the moment he saw his son.
A smile crossed his face.
A real smile.
Not the one investors saw.
Not the one cameras captured.
A father's smile.
"Finished exploring?"
Elijah nodded.
"Mostly."
Marcus noticed the expression on his son's face.
"What happened?"
The manager quietly explained.
Every detail.
The insults.
The recording.
The laughter.
The humiliation.
Marcus listened without interruption.
His expression never changed.
Which somehow made it worse.
By the time the manager finished, the room felt colder.
Much colder.
Finally Marcus asked:
"Did you say anything back?"
Elijah shrugged.
"I told her the car was mine."
A small smile appeared on Marcus's face.
"And?"
"Nobody believed me."
The businessman laughed softly.
Then his expression became thoughtful.
Very thoughtful.
For years Marcus had tried to teach his son something important.
Money changes how people treat you.
But character reveals who they really are.
That was why Elijah rarely wore expensive clothes.
Why he attended public schools.
Why he wasn't followed by bodyguards everywhere.
Marcus wanted his son to understand people.
Not status.
Not wealth.
People.
Unfortunately...
Sometimes the lessons were painful.
A few moments later the showroom manager received a phone call.
His face changed immediately.
Then he looked toward Marcus.
"Sir..."
"What is it?"
The manager hesitated.
"Miss Sterling's father is downstairs."
Marcus raised an eyebrow.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
Because he knew exactly who Robert Sterling was.
A wealthy investor.
One of the company's largest dealership partners.
And one of the men scheduled to attend today's executive meeting.
Downstairs...
Madison wished the floor would swallow her.
The humiliation was unbearable.
But things were about to become worse.
Much worse.
The main entrance opened.
A tall man in an expensive suit entered quickly.
Robert Sterling.
Her father.
The moment he saw her, he frowned.
"Madison?"
She rushed toward him.
"Dad."
Relief flooded her face.
Finally.
Someone would fix this.
Someone would make everything normal again.
Then Robert noticed the silence inside the showroom.
The lowered phones.
The nervous employees.
And the manager standing beside the elevator.
His stomach tightened.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
"What happened?"
Nobody answered.
Then one employee quietly explained.
The more Robert listened...
the paler he became.
His daughter interrupted.
"Dad, it was a misunderstanding."
No response.
"Dad?"
Still nothing.
Because Robert knew exactly who Elijah King was.
He had met him several times.
Years ago.
At charity events.
Private gatherings.
Company celebrations.
And now his daughter had publicly mocked the heir to a billion-dollar empire.
While being recorded.
In front of dozens of witnesses.
The elevator doors opened.
Marcus King stepped out.
Elijah beside him.
The entire showroom straightened instantly.
Robert felt his stomach drop.
Because Marcus wasn't smiling.
Not even slightly.
The two men stared at each other.
Then Robert did something that shocked Madison.
He apologized.
Immediately.
"I'm deeply sorry."
Madison blinked.
"Dad?"
Robert ignored her.
"This behavior is unacceptable."
Madison stared in disbelief.
"But—"
"No."
His voice became firm.
"You will be quiet."
The showroom watched.
Nobody expected this.
Least of all Madison.
For the first time in her life...
her father's influence wasn't enough.
Then Marcus surprised everyone.
Including Robert.
He looked at Elijah.
"What do you think should happen?"
The room became silent.
Every eye turned toward the boy.
Because suddenly...
the decision belonged to him.
Elijah looked at Madison.
Then at her friends.
Then at the employees.
For several long seconds he said nothing.
Finally he spoke.
"Nothing."
Everyone froze.
"What?" Madison whispered.
Elijah shrugged.
"They already embarrassed themselves."
No anger.
No revenge.
No cruelty.
Just honesty.
And somehow that hurt more than punishment ever could.
Marcus studied his son carefully.
Then smiled.
Because in that moment he realized something.
The lesson had worked.
His son understood something many adults never learn.
Respect cannot be bought.
Character cannot be inherited.
And kindness is often the greatest form of strength.
But the day wasn't over yet.
Not even close.
Because one of Marcus's assistants suddenly rushed into the showroom carrying a folder.
His face looked alarmed.
Very alarmed.
"Sir..."
Marcus turned.
"What happened?"
The assistant handed him the documents.
Marcus opened them.
Then immediately went still.
Completely still.
Elijah noticed.
And that frightened him.
Because his father never looked surprised.
Ever.
Slowly Marcus closed the folder.
Then looked directly at Elijah.
His voice was barely above a whisper.
"We need to go home."
END OF PART 2
As they left the showroom, Elijah glanced at the folder in his father's hand.
Only one page was visible.
Just enough to read a single sentence.
May you like
And that sentence changed everything.
"Regarding the investigation into the disappearance of Sarah King, reopened after 15 years..."
