PART 3

Part 3 – The Billionaire Nobody Recognized

The parking plaza fell silent.

Every phone that had been recording to laugh at me...

Was now recording something else.

The valet manager opened the driver's door of the matte-black hypercar with both hands.

"Everything is ready, Mr. Cole."

I nodded.

"Thank you."

The woman who had mocked me moments earlier couldn't take her eyes off the car.

"This..."

She swallowed hard.

"...this can't be yours."

The valet looked confused.

"I'm sorry, ma'am?"

She pointed at me.

"He said he doesn't drive for anyone."

"He doesn't."

The valet smiled politely.

"He owns the company that owns this building."

A wave of whispers spread through the crowd.

"What?"

"I knew he looked familiar."

"That's Adrian Cole!"

"The founder of TechNova?"

People immediately pulled out their phones again.

Not to mock me.

To search my name.

Within seconds...

Photographs from business magazines appeared on their screens.

The same face.

The same calm expression.

The same plain white shirt he often wore in interviews.

One man looked up in disbelief.

"Oh my God..."

"It really is him."

The woman's face turned completely pale.

"I..."

"I didn't recognize you."

I smiled faintly.

"I know."

She lowered her eyes.

"I was rude."

"You were."

"I judged you."

"You did."

The honesty of my answers hurt more than anger ever could.

She took a deep breath.

Then slowly bent one knee toward the concrete.

"I made a promise."

The entire parking lot watched.

She was actually going to kneel.

Before her knee touched the ground...

I quietly reached out and stopped her.

"Don't."

She looked up in surprise.

"But..."

"I said I would."

I shook my head.

"I don't need people kneeling."

"I'd rather they learn."

Tears welled in her eyes.

"I'm sorry."

This time...

She meant it.

I offered my hand.

After a brief hesitation...

She accepted it and stood.

The crowd applauded softly.

Not because someone had been humiliated.

But because they had just witnessed grace instead of revenge.

Just then, my phone vibrated.

It was my executive assistant.

I answered.

"This is Adrian."

Her voice sounded unusually anxious.

"Sir..."

"You need to come to St. Mary's Hospital."

My smile disappeared.

"Why?"

There was a long silence.

Then she whispered,

"We found someone."

My heartbeat stopped.

"Who?"

Another pause.

"The woman..."

"...claims she's your mother."

I couldn't breathe.

"My mother died fifteen years ago."

My assistant answered softly.

"That's what everyone believed."

May you like

"But she knows something..."

"...that only your mother could possibly know."
