PART 2

Part 2 – The Woman Who Laughed Too Soon
The confrontation came from my left.
"Excuse me!"
A sharp voice echoed across the parking plaza.
I stopped walking.
A woman in a tailored emerald-green pantsuit marched toward me, her designer handbag swinging at her side.
She couldn't have been older than thirty.
Perfect hair.
Perfect makeup.
Perfect confidence.
Behind her sat a brand-new silver Porsche 911.
Several people nearby slowed their pace, sensing drama.
The woman pointed directly at me.
"Were you standing next to my car?"
I glanced toward the Porsche.
"For a moment."
She folded her arms.
"I knew it."
"You were taking pictures, weren't you?"
I blinked.
"No."
She gave a sarcastic laugh.
"Of course."
"People always do."
"I wasn't."
"You expect me to believe that?"
She stepped closer.
"I've seen people like you before."
"You pretend you're just walking by..."
"...then post pictures online pretending it's yours."
A few pedestrians stopped to watch.
Someone quietly pulled out a phone.
I sighed.
"I wasn't photographing your car."
She looked at my plain white shirt and inexpensive-looking watch.
Then she smiled with unmistakable contempt.
"Let me guess."
"You drive for one of these executives?"
"I don't."
"Courier?"
"No."
"Delivery driver?"
I smiled politely.
"No."
She shrugged dramatically.
"Whatever you do..."
"...you'll never own something like this."
A few people chuckled.
Normally...
I would've kept walking.
But something about the certainty in her voice reminded me of people I'd met years ago.
People who believed appearances told the whole story.
I looked at the Porsche.
"It's a beautiful car."
Her smile widened.
"I know."
"I waited two years for the allocation."
She twirled the key fob around one finger.
"Not everyone gets one."
Then she looked back at me.
"You know..."
"If this car actually belongs to you..."
She laughed.
"I'll kneel right here in this parking lot."
The crowd laughed with her.
Someone whispered,
"This ought to be good."
I looked at the key in her hand.
Then at the Porsche.
Then back at her.
I didn't smile.
I didn't argue.
Instead...
I reached into my pocket.
Not for my wallet.
Not for my phone.
I pulled out a small black key fob.
The crowd watched curiously.
The woman smirked.
"Oh, please."
"You bought one online?"
Without saying a word...
I pressed the unlock button.
Nothing happened.
Her laughter grew louder.
"I knew it."
Then...
A second electronic chime echoed across the plaza.
It didn't come from her Porsche.
Every head slowly turned.
Parked quietly on the opposite side of the lot...
Hidden between two ordinary SUVs...
A one-of-one matte-black hypercar worth more than every luxury vehicle in the parking lot combined slowly illuminated its signature headlights.
The crowd fell completely silent.
The woman stared in disbelief.
Before anyone could say a word...
The valet manager came running across the plaza.
He stopped in front of me.
Then bowed his head slightly.
"Mr. Cole..."
"Your car is ready."
May you like
And in that instant...
The woman realized she had challenged the wrong man.
