CHAPTER 1 The Woman Everyone Laughed At

“Did they start letting models join shooting championships?”
The laughter followed Amelia Brooks the moment she stepped into the National Extreme Shooting Arena.
Marcus Cole—the three-time champion and face of the sport—made sure everyone heard the insult.
Nobody believed Amelia belonged there.
She carried an old rifle.
An old range bag.
No sponsors.
No reputation.
Only silence.
When the competition began, Marcus delivered a flawless performance and soaked in the applause.
Then Amelia stepped forward.
Instead of aiming at the official target, she used a reflection from a safety panel and fired a backward shot.
The hidden target exploded.
The arena fell silent.
For the first time, Marcus stopped smiling.
But something even stranger happened.
Senior Referee Daniel Hayes noticed the silver eagle pendant hanging from Amelia’s neck.
His face went pale.
Because he had seen that symbol before.
Thirty years ago.
In a photograph that was never supposed to be remembered.
