PART 2

PART 2 — The Sister Everyone Buried
Ethan couldn't breathe.
The phone trembled in his hand.
The city noise vanished.
The traffic disappeared.
The sidewalk disappeared.
Everything disappeared except the face on the screen.
Olivia.
His younger sister.
The sister he buried ten years ago.
The sister whose funeral he attended.
The sister whose death certificate still sat inside a locked family archive.
Impossible.
Yet there she was.
Lying in a hospital bed.
Alive.
"Brother..."
The whisper barely escaped her lips.
But Ethan heard it.
Every syllable.
The phone slipped from his fingers.
Almost.
The little girl caught it.
Carefully.
Protectively.
"Mom!"
She rushed beside the bed.
Concern filling her face.
Olivia smiled weakly.
The same smile Ethan remembered from childhood.
The same smile that vanished ten years ago.
Tears filled his eyes.
For years he blamed himself.
For years he wondered what he could have done differently.
For years he carried guilt that never left.
And now she was alive.
"Where are you?"
The question exploded from him.
Olivia looked away.
Fear immediately appeared in her eyes.
The reaction frightened Ethan.
Because it wasn't the reaction of someone hiding.
It was the reaction of someone still afraid.
"Olivia."
His voice softened.
"What happened?"
The room on the screen became silent.
Then Olivia looked toward her daughter.
"Emma."
The little girl nodded.
Understanding immediately.
She walked out of the hospital room.
Closing the door behind her.
Only then did Olivia speak.
"They found me."
Ethan froze.
"Who?"
A tear rolled down Olivia's cheek.
"Our family."
The words hit harder than any punch.
Because Ethan already knew.
The Hart family was powerful.
Extremely powerful.
Old money.
Political influence.
Corporate influence.
The kind of family capable of controlling headlines.
The kind of family that protected secrets at any cost.
"What are you talking about?"
Olivia closed her eyes.
"You remember Dad."
Ethan's stomach tightened.
Of course he remembered.
Everyone remembered Victor Hart.
Billionaire.
Philanthropist.
Respected businessman.
Public hero.
Private tyrant.
To the world, Victor Hart was admired.
To his children, he was feared.
"I left because of him."
Ethan felt cold.
Because suddenly pieces of the past started fitting together.
Olivia continued.
"Ten years ago I discovered what he was doing."
Silence.
"The fake charities."
Silence.
"The stolen donations."
Silence.
"The money laundering."
Ethan sat down heavily on a nearby bench.
Because deep down...
he had always suspected something.
But never this.
Never this much.
"I confronted him."
Olivia whispered.
The memory clearly still haunted her.
"He told me nobody would believe me."
Another tear.
"He told me I would disappear before the truth came out."
The phone shook slightly.
Because Ethan's hands were shaking.
"What happened next?"
Olivia looked toward the door.
Making sure Emma wasn't listening.
Then she said the words that changed everything.
"He staged my death."
The world stopped.
Ethan couldn't speak.
Couldn't think.
Couldn't even process what he had heard.
Olivia nodded slowly.
"The car accident was fake."
Silence.
"The funeral was fake."
Silence.
"The death certificate was fake."
Ethan felt physically ill.
For ten years he mourned his sister.
For ten years Emma grew up without family.
For ten years Olivia lived in hiding.
Because of one man.
Victor Hart.
Then Ethan asked the question that mattered most.
"Why contact me now?"
Olivia smiled sadly.
Because she already knew the answer.
And so did Ethan.
She looked weaker than before.
Much weaker.
The hospital bed.
The pale skin.
The exhaustion.
The thin face.
None of it was accidental.
Olivia slowly held up a medical chart.
Ethan's heart dropped.
Stage Four.
The words blurred before his eyes.
"No."
Olivia smiled through tears.
"I don't have much time."
The sentence shattered him.
"But Emma does."
Silence.
"I need you to protect her."
Ethan looked toward the closed hospital door.
Toward the little girl who only wanted shoes for school.
And suddenly everything made sense.
The worn dress.
The broken shoes.
The bravery.
The determination.
Emma wasn't asking for charity.
She was trying to save her mother.
Then Olivia reached beneath her blanket.
And removed a small envelope.
Old.
Sealed.
Hidden.
"Take this."
Ethan stared.
"What is it?"
Olivia's answer sent a chill through his entire body.
"The proof."
Proof of Victor Hart's crimes.
Proof that could destroy one of the most powerful men in the country.
Proof people had killed to keep hidden.
As Ethan reached for the envelope, Olivia whispered one final warning.
"If Dad finds out you're helping us...
he'll come for you too."
END OF PART 2
That night, Ethan opened the envelope.
Inside were photographs.
Bank records.
Secret accounts.
Witness statements.
And one recent photograph.
A photograph taken only three days earlier.
Victor Hart was standing beside a man Ethan recognized instantly.
The city's Chief of Police.
May you like
And both men were looking directly into the camera.
As if they already knew someone was watching.
