PART 2

PART 2 — The Gardener Who Owned Everything

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

The wedding was over.

Even if no one had officially said the words.

Julian stood frozen in the middle of the ballroom.

The same room where he had mocked Samuel minutes earlier.

Now every eye in the mansion was on him.

The lawyer opened his briefcase.

Then removed a thick stack of documents.

"The Vance family has been under investigation for eighteen months."

Julian's father turned pale.

"What investigation?"

The lawyer looked directly at him.

"The Agricultural Preservation Trust."

A murmur spread through the crowd.

Samuel quietly listened.

As though he had already heard it all before.

"The trust was created by Samuel Whitmore's grandfather."

The lawyer turned another page.

"Its purpose was simple."

To protect the orchards.

Protect the farmland.

Protect the workers.

Not luxury events.

Not private investments.

Not speculative real estate projects.

Julian's father grabbed the papers.

His hands were shaking.

"No."

The lawyer nodded.

"Unfortunately, yes."

For years millions of dollars had disappeared from the trust.

Money meant for workers.

Money meant for conservation.

Money meant for the community.

The evidence was overwhelming.

Bank transfers.

False invoices.

Shell companies.

Every trail led back to the Vance family.

The bride slowly removed her engagement ring.

Julian noticed.

His face drained of color.

"Claire..."

She stepped backward.

As if she no longer recognized him.

"Was any of it real?"

Julian couldn't answer.

Because for the first time in his life...

there was no lie big enough to save him.

Guests began leaving.

Investors followed.

Business partners disappeared.

Within an hour the ballroom was nearly empty.

Only Samuel remained.

Standing beside the roses.

The same roses he had spent decades growing.

Julian finally looked at him.

"Why?"

His voice cracked.

"You could have stopped this years ago."

Samuel looked out toward the gardens.

Because he knew the answer.

"I wasn't protecting the estate."

Silence.

"I was protecting the people who depended on it."

The workers.

The gardeners.

The families living on the land.

If he had acted too early...

they would have suffered first.

Julian lowered his head.

For the first time in his life...

he understood what real responsibility looked like.

END OF PART 2

As the sun began to set beyond the orchards, Samuel walked back into the gardens.

But before he could pick up his shears...

a young woman called his name.

May you like

It was Claire.

And what she handed him would change the future of the estate forever.
