The Bracelet That Solved a Six-Year Mystery
CHAPTER 1 — CAUGHT
Liam Parker never planned to steal.
He only planned to eat.
The six-year-old boy wandered through the supermarket holding an empty stomach and a promise.
His mother had been sick for days.
Too sick to work.
Too sick to leave the apartment.
The only thing she had managed to say before falling asleep was:
"Don't take off the bracelet."
So Liam didn't.
The silver dragon bracelet never left his wrist.
Not when he slept.
Not when he was hungry.
Not even when other children laughed at it.
That evening he walked into the supermarket carrying only three dollars and a growing panic.
Three dollars couldn't buy medicine.
Three dollars couldn't buy groceries.
Three dollars couldn't solve anything.
He stared at the snack aisle for a long time.
Then he made the worst decision of his life.
A few minutes later, the bags fell from his jacket.
An employee grabbed him.
Customers stared.
Phones appeared.
The humiliation spread through the store like wildfire.
Liam cried.
Begged.
Tried to explain.
Nobody listened.
Then a woman in a dark emerald coat froze across the aisle.
Because the bracelet on Liam's wrist belonged to a child she had lost six years ago.
A child everyone believed was dead.
Her daughter.
And when Liam whispered:
"My mom told me never to take it off..."
Eleanor Hayes felt her world begin to crack.
Then she asked:
"Where is your mother?"

And Liam's face turned white.
Because his mother had warned him about that question too.
