The Oasis of Gratitude: A Meeting in the Desert

I. The Discovery in the Desert

The midday sun was an unforgiving presence over the dunes. There, lying on the sand and dressed in a luxury suit now covered in dust, was an unconscious man. Old Samuel, an 80-year-old man with sun-worn skin, was walking through the area with his loyal companion, a German Shepherd named Rex.

—“Look, Rex, this man surely needs help. He must be very thirsty,”— the old man said with concern.

Feeling Samuel’s shadow over him, the man opened his eyes with difficulty. His throat was as dry as the desert itself.

—“Please… give me some water…”— he managed to whisper.

Samuel took out his canteen and carefully gave him water to drink.

The man regained some strength, but his gaze was lost.

—“I don’t remember anything… Thank you for the water, but… where am I?”—

—“Easy, son,”— the old man replied —. “You’re far from the city. I’ll take you to my home. Maybe there, you’ll remember what happened to you.”—

II. Humility Under a Broken Roof

They arrived at a very humble house. The walls were worn down by the wind, and the tin roof looked like it might collapse at any moment. Samuel lived there in complete solitude, with Rex as his only family.

—“It’s not much, but it’s yours,”— the old man said, handing him an old button phone —. “Here, call your home. Someone must be looking for you.”—

III. The Truth in the Shadows

The man, who turned out to be a powerful businessman named Victor Hayes, called his associates. When they rescued him and he returned to his mansion, the first thing he did was search for answers.

The amnesia faded, and a suspicion began to grow in his chest.

He went straight to the security room and asked for the recordings from the night before.

His heart broke when he saw the footage.

His wife—whom he had been married to for only two years—had slipped something into his wine glass. Then, with the help of a stranger, they put him in a car, drove him deep into the desert, and abandoned him there to die so they could take his fortune.

Victor didn’t hesitate.

—“Call the police immediately.”—

The woman was arrested that very night and sent to prison for attempted murder and abandonment.

IV. A Reward with Purpose

Days later, a caravan of black SUVs arrived at Samuel’s humble home. Victor stepped out of the first vehicle, holding a black briefcase.

—“Mr. Samuel, you saved my life when my own family wanted me dead,”— Victor said, deeply moved —. “Here is enough money for you to buy a new house, the best food, clothes, and of course, plenty of care and food for Rex.”—

The old man looked at the briefcase, then at Victor, gently shaking his head.

—“Son, I didn’t do it for money. Anyone in that situation—I would have helped them. My reward is seeing you alive and well.”—
