Part2-The House of Forgetting: The Return of Justice

II. The Power of the Safe Deposit Box

The bank vault door shut behind them with a heavy metallic thud, echoing like a final judgment.

Arthur Bennett stood silently, his frail figure now wrapped in a dark overcoat the lawyer had brought him. But his eyes—those tired, forgotten eyes—were no longer weak.

They were calculating.

“Box 317,” Arthur said calmly.

The bank manager nodded and inserted the key. With a soft click, the deposit box slid open.

Inside… was not money.

At least, not in the way most would expect.

There were documents.

Stacks of them. Neatly arranged. Sealed. Untouched for years.

The lawyer adjusted his glasses, confusion flickering across his face.
“Mr. Bennett… these are—”

“Read them,” Arthur interrupted.

One by one, the lawyer pulled them out.

Property deeds. Corporate ownership records. Offshore accounts. Trust funds.

And then—

He froze.

“Lucas Bennett… is not the legal owner of Bennett Group.”

Arthur gave a faint, almost bitter smile.

“I let him believe he built everything,” Arthur said. “Every deal… every investment… every success…”

His voice dropped.

“Was mine.”

The lawyer flipped to the final document.

A trust agreement.

Signed. Sealed.

Effective immediately.

“All assets… are to be transferred under the sole control of Arthur Bennett.”

“And Lucas?” the lawyer asked carefully.

Arthur turned away, looking toward the faint light filtering through the vault corridor.

“He has exactly what he gave me.”

A pause.

“Nothing.”

Meanwhile…

Lucas Bennett stood in his glass office, staring at the skyline he believed he owned.

His phone rang.

Unknown number.

He almost ignored it—but something made him answer.

“Mr. Bennett,” a calm voice said. “This is your bank.”

Lucas smirked. “If this is about my accounts, just—”

“Your accounts have been frozen.”

Silence.

“What?”

“All corporate authority tied to your name has been revoked. Effective immediately.”

Lucas laughed—at first.

Then stopped.

“That’s impossible.”

“Sir… you may want to check the ownership records.”

The line went dead.

Lucas rushed to his computer, fingers trembling as he pulled up the system.

His name…

Was gone.

Replaced by—

Arthur Bennett.

Back in the Vault

Arthur closed the box slowly.

“For seventy-five years, I built something,” he whispered.

“For thirty years… I gave it to him.”

He looked at the lawyer.

“And in one night… he showed me who he really was.”

Arthur’s expression hardened.

“Now it’s my turn.”

Ending (Open Twist)

As they exited the bank, a black car was already waiting.

The driver stepped out.

“Mr. Bennett… they’ve arrived.”

Arthur paused.

“They?” the lawyer asked.

Arthur didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he looked up at the gray sky—the same sky from the night before.

But something had changed.

“People who’ve been waiting a long time,” he said quietly.

The car door opened.

And inside—

Sat a woman.

Elegant. Composed.

Smiling.

“Welcome back, Arthur,” she said.

Arthur’s face didn’t show surprise.

Only recognition.

And far away…

Lucas stared at his reflection in the glass.

For the first time in his life—

He looked… small.

And alone.

But what he didn’t know…

May you like

Was that losing everything…

Was only the beginning.
